Read All About Dark Skys And How To Achieve Them, In New Brochure From ALLSCAPE® Santa Ana, California, August, 2005 — ALLSCAPE®, a manufacturer of high-performance, state-of-the-art landscape lighting solutions, a Philips group brand, has announced availability of its Dark Sky Brochure. The eight-page full-color brochure reviews the increasingly prevalent problem of light pollution and the ways in which 3dOP, ALLSCAPE's proprietary 3D outdoor lighting visualization software, can help. The Dark Sky Brochure defines the term "light pollution" and provides an overview of the causes and problems related to this condition. These include excessive energy consumption, interference with astronomical observations and use of improper or poorly designed outdoor landscape or area light fixtures. The Dark Sky Brochure provides examples of how the lighting industry at large is addressing light pollution; and the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, that gives incentive to building planners to eliminate light trespass and reduce development impact on nocturnal environments. California's 2005 version of its Title 24 Energy Code includes new, strict provisions for outdoor lighting for non-residential buildings. Many other states are likewise enacting light pollution legislation to regulate light in both commercial and residential areas.
